There is so much I want to write down, to remember, to pass along to another generation. Missing the last few weeks was almost enough for me to throw in the towel on this whole writing idea. But I know that these letters that are overflowing with my love of this farm, of  this life,  will be a cherished part of my little families history.

SPRINGTIME ON THE FARM

There isn't much more joyous than spring on a farm, or more stressful, but isn't that the way of most of life's most wondrous moments. All of the behind the scenes that makes you question your sanity, to only look back fondly at it all.

Spring is a culmination of countless hours of work from the previous year coming to life. While simultaneously starting all over again for the next. The flowers you planted in October emerge from the ground,  perennial  plants you painstakingly dug into your savings to purchase slowly start to show their faces as you breathe a sigh of relief.

Our cattle have bought 4 new little lives into the world, a familiar sound of fluffy little yellow chicks chirp their way back to the farm, our layers begin to scratch at the spring bug buffet that awaits them every morning just steps outside of their home. Our injured chick Sampson has moved into our house. Going outside with us and following us everywhere.

It is a magical time as everything returns to a state of glowing light, almost everything feels lighter, our clothing choices, our family dinners, our after dinner adventures, the slower pace of some times, the light speed pace of others.

Running running as fast as you can

Once we are done romanticizing and enjoying these beautiful spring moments we flip to the other side of the coin. The race to get everything done in just a few short weeks.

With our new baby in tow and Hudson the ultimate helper we have managed to stay on top of a lot of things.

We talked about this in an earlier post but we have started a whole new garden space. Technically we started it 3 years ago, but now it has made it to its newest stage and we are planting within it. Connor asked me what my dream garden looked like and now he has built it.

Many phases of this plan have already happened and we have documented it all, from the very first step of mowing down the overgrown grasses to better visualize the space, to planting our first seeds two weekends ago. Most of our flowers and all of our dahlias are already in the ground. A task that wasn't completed until the second week of June last year because my pregnant self wasn't feeling so hot.

Tulip Season

I will close this short remembrance to the month of may with a huge thank you to all of you who supported us so greatly during this spring season. We remember each and everyone of you. The support you have shown us and our farm. Your kind words, purchases, sharing about our farm, our vision. All of it means so much to us.

Every October when we begin to plant thousands of bulbs we wonder if any of them will leave our farm. If it was a good choice for us and you have shown us it is. We will be planting thousands more this coming October in hopes of experiencing the same spring season all over again next year.
